Affordable Housing Programs

Alameda Development Corporation works on its own development projects and also assists for-profit developers with their work in the community. Here is the current status of specific projects.

Developing and Building Projects

Alameda Development Corporation purchased a site on Buena Vista Ave. west of Webster Street in 2000. ADC and Habitat for Humanity East Bay will develop eight new three-bedroom ownership homes on the site. The homes will be built using the Habitat self-help and community build model. Construction is expected to start in late 2006 or early 2007. For information on volunteering, please visit the Habitat website at http://www.habitateb.org. Four of the homes will be sold to buyers selected by Habitat for Humanity. That selection process is complete. Four of the homes will be sold by Alameda Development Corporation. Two homes will be sold to low income families, and two will be sold to moderate income families. The application process will begin mid-2007. Please call the 626 Buena Vista hotline at 510-486-8923 for updates. Information also is available at http://www.alamedahousing.com.

Brokering

ADC has been contracted by Warmington Homes to broker 48 affordable homes at Bayport Alameda to moderate-income households. The homes, which are called "The Landing," will be released in phases over the next several years. For more information about this homeownership opportunity go to www.ADCBayport.com. In 2002, ADC negotiated an agreement with KB Homes South Bay Inc. to broker the affordable homes at Marina Cove. Between January - June 2003 the ADC successfully sold 12 homes to households that met affordable income requirements. ADC will continue to offer its brokering services to other developers, so check with us occasionally to see if other affordable homeownership opportunities are available.

Educating

The ADC conducts first-time homebuyer workshops for households that are selected to purchase affordable homes. The ADC also is developing a post-purchase counseling program for homeowners. As the ADC identifies housing issues that need to be addressed, it develops programs and strategies to respond to them.
