About Us
Mission Statement
Alameda Development Corporation (ADC) is committed to increasing housing
options for individuals and families with modest means in Alameda and
surrounding communities.
Program Overview
Brokering:
ADC works with developers of large-scale projects on the affordable
components of their projects. ADC resells the affordable housing units
to purchasers with very low, low and moderate incomes -- identifying
and qualifying purchasers for this housing; training them in homeownership
and financial management skills; and establishing maintenance standards.
ADC, given its goodwill and relationships in the community, is able
to “broker” relationships, partnerships and initiatives
related to housing.
Developing:
ADC develops small-scale residential projects for sale to purchasers
with very low, low and moderate incomes and provides support services
to those purchasers. All sales of affordable units are subject to
an affordability covenant. ADC's goal is to sell these units to purchasers
with incomes at all levels within the applicable affordability ranges.
Education and Advocacy:
ADC educates Alamedans regarding the need for affordable housing
and the options to meet those needs.
Geographic Areas Served:
City of Alameda and Alameda County
History
ADC was incorporated on February 17, 2000 under the California Nonprofit
Public Benefit Corporation Law. The purposes of ADC are (1) to promote
homeownership opportunities for all income groups, including lower income
renters and newly-formed households, and (2) to provide for the conservation,
rehabilitation and expansion of Alameda’s housing stock while
maintaining and improving the physical and social integrity of existing
neighborhoods. One of the members of the Corporation’s Board of
Directors is elected on the recommendation of the Mayor and the City
Council of Alameda. ADC cooperates closely with the City’s agencies
involved in housing development.
The upcoming redevelopment of the former Alameda Naval Air Station
and Fleet Industrial Supply Center creates the need for a locally-based
non-profit housing organization to assure that a full range of objectives
will be achieved. ADC is uniquely positioned to fill that niche. ADC
will partner with commercial and not-for-profit developers and will
enlist and coordinate the efforts of other non-profit organizations
to accomplish housing goals. ADC will also use its own staff and resources
for services that are not readily available from other sources.
Board, Staff and Community Support
The collective experience of the Corporation’s Board covers
all aspects of affordable housing advocacy and development and related
support services. The Corporation’s Executive Director has significant
experience in affordable housing, organizational development and nonprofit
management.
